Lattice Semiconductor LCMXO2-256HC-4SG32C - MachXO2 PLD
The LCMXO2-256HC-4SG32C is a flash-based programmable logic device with 256 LUT4s, built for the job a CPLD used to do: power sequencing, reset and watchdog logic, bus bridging and I/O expansion. Configuration is stored in on-die flash, so the device takes control of signals within a millisecond of power-up - no boot PROM, no configuration delay, and no way for a supply glitch to leave the logic undefined.

A: Two reasons: instant-on (no configuration phase, no boot flash) and non-volatility - a supply glitch or radiation event cannot blank the configuration. For sequencing and bridging logic that must never be indeterminate at power-up, that matters more than logic density.
Q: Does the 256 device have block RAM or a PLL?
A: No - the XO2-256 density omits both. Distributed RAM (2 Kb) covers small buffers, and clocking is single-domain. Need EBR or PLL? Move to XO2-640 or above.
